Apple Inc. has eliminated more than 200 positions across teams working on its Siri digital assistant and Vision Pro mixed-reality headset, according to a report citing internal sources. The reductions include roughly 100 roles in the Vision Pro division and another 100 in Siri and related software teams, with additional cuts in the Intelligent Systems Experience group, a software engineering team focused on device AI features.
The Vision Pro unit is being scaled back, with Apple largely closing a team dedicated to gaming for the headset and reducing a unit producing immersive video content. The headset, priced at $3,699 since its February 2024 launch, will continue to receive support alongside its visionOS operating system. Apple is shifting focus toward launching smart glasses that will not support immersive video or advanced gaming, while development of a new Vision Pro model remains under consideration for a potential release as early as the end of 2028.
Changes to the Siri team involve transitioning to an AI-powered version of the assistant built on a new technical architecture, which requires different skill sets. The reorganization of the Intelligent Systems Experience group is part of a broader effort to accelerate AI development across multiple teams, aligning priorities and resources.
Apple confirmed the job cuts in a statement to Bloomberg, describing the changes as a realignment to "evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users." The company noted that while new roles will be created, the adjustments will impact a limited number of existing positions. Apple also expressed gratitude to affected employees and committed to supporting their transition, including opportunities to apply for other roles within the company.
