Anthropic PBC agreed to a $45 billion contract with Nscale for cloud computing capacity at the latter’s West Virginia data center campus, according to a report published Wednesday. The six-year agreement underscores Anthropic’s push to secure infrastructure ahead of a planned initial public offering.
The deal covers the first of three planned buildings at Nscale’s Monarch Campus, which will ultimately reach 1.35 gigawatts of power capacity. The full campus and on-site power plant are projected to cost approximately $71 billion, with $47 billion earmarked for AI chips. Nscale will deploy Nvidia’s Vera Rubin processors, with operations expected to commence by the end of 2027.
The agreement provides Anthropic with roughly 460 megawatts of power—equivalent to the energy needed for about 345,000 U.S. homes—under a six-year commitment. Nscale, headquartered in London and positioned as a “neocloud” provider specializing in AI-focused computing capacity, is also preparing for its own IPO next month.
Microsoft had previously signed a letter of intent for the West Virginia site in March but withdrew in early summer, allowing Anthropic to become the primary tenant. The AI company has also secured separate cloud capacity agreements totaling $105 billion with other providers, including Fluidstack, Volta Infra Holdings Ltd., and SpaceX. Anthropic’s valuation reached $965 billion in May.
