Aberdeen New India Investment Trust PLC reported a five-year adjusted net asset value total return of 24.2% for the period ending July 31, 2026, according to a statement released Wednesday. The MSCI India Index (sterling-adjusted) returned 20.4% over the same interval, marking an outperformance margin of 3.8 percentage points.
The trust’s unaudited NAV per share stood at 812.3 pence as of July 31, while the adjusted NAV—calculated after adding back Indian capital gains tax paid or accrued since April 1, 2022—reached 866.3 pence. The five-year assessment period runs from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2027, with performance measured against the MSCI India Index on a sterling-adjusted basis.
The board outlined a conditional tender offer mechanism tied to the assessment outcome. If the trust’s adjusted NAV total return fails to meet or exceed the benchmark over the full five-year span, the board will propose repurchasing 25% of issued share capital (excluding treasury shares) at 98% of the prevailing NAV per share after deducting implementation costs.
The trust’s investment strategy focuses on Indian companies with competitive positions, strong management, and growth potential, leveraging over 30 years of regional experience and local research capabilities. Portfolio construction is concentrated, emphasizing individual company characteristics rather than index replication. The trust also engages with portfolio holdings on governance, operational practices, and shareholder value creation.
The statement was issued via press release on August 20, 2026.
