LONDON — 80 Mile PLC said its Italian biodiesel plant in Ferrandina, southern Italy, has received dual sustainability certifications, positioning the facility to meet both national and European Union renewable fuel requirements.
The Ferrandina plant, operated by subsidiary Greenswitch S.r.l., secured certification under Italy’s National Sustainability Certification Scheme (INS) and the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC). The dual approvals enable Greenswitch to qualify its biodiesel output for Italy’s double-counting treatment under the Certificati di Immissione in Consumo regime, administered by the Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE).
According to the company, biodiesel products achieving double-counting status typically command a premium of €300–500 per tonne, depending on feedstock quality, greenhouse gas savings, and certificate pricing. The certifications also confirm compliance with EU sustainability, traceability, and emissions-saving criteria for renewable fuels.
Mark Frascogna, Managing Director of Hydrogen Valley, 80 Mile’s subsidiary, said securing both certifications validates the operational progress at the facility. The plant is currently undergoing final maintenance ahead of planned commercial production of biodiesel and other renewable fuels.
The Ferrandina facility is located near the Port of Taranto, providing logistical access for feedstock supply and product distribution. 80 Mile, listed on London’s AIM market (ticker: 80M) and trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (S5WA) and U.S. OTC Market (BLLYF), operates projects in Greenland, Finland, and Italy.
