Shell Energy North America agreed to sell its interests in RISEC Holdings, LLC, which owns a 609‑megawatt, two‑unit combined‑cycle gas turbine plant serving the New England power market, to Constellation Energy Generation, LLC for $715 million. Shell had held an energy conversion agreement for the plant’s full electricity output since 2019, a contract that will terminate upon completion of the sale.
In the same announcement, Shell said it will acquire 100 % equity in Hunlock Creek Generating LLC from Riverview Power Holdings LLC. The Hunlock Creek site comprises a 125‑megawatt combined‑cycle unit and a 44‑megawatt simple‑cycle peaking unit, for a total capacity of 169 megawatts. Riverview Power is an indirect subsidiary of Castleton Commodities International LLC. The acquisition gives Shell supply and capacity in the PJM Interconnection market, which oversees electricity flow across 13 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.
Both transactions are expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to required regulatory approvals. Andrew Smith, Shell’s President of Trading & Supply, commented that the moves reflect the company’s dynamic approach to managing its trading portfolio, investing in assets that strengthen market position and create value while being ready to realize value when opportunities arise. Shell Energy North America, based in Houston, Texas, has provided energy solutions to commercial and industrial customers for more than 25 years.
