Okta Outlines AI Security Blueprint at 2026 Investor Summit

Okta’s 2026 Investor Summit highlighted the company’s push to secure AI agents, a burgeoning category where identity management will be critical as enterprises integrate probabilistic, autonomous systems. CEO Todd McKinnon emphasized a dual goal: enabling safe, broad adoption of AI tools while maintaining operational control, framing the challenge as ‘simple, not easy.’

The company’s Okta for AI Agents product, launched in April 2024, now supports 25 major features, with a roadmap to general availability by January 2025. Okta’s internal use of AI agents via Dell’s Dex platform has already saved 250,000 hours annually, while proper authorization scoping could cut token consumption by up to 90%. The summit introduced The Blueprint for the Secure Agentic Enterprise, a framework designed to address four core questions: visibility, capability, activity monitoring, and response mechanisms. These pillars include an agentic registry, permissions governance, runtime observability, and kill switches.

Okta’s authentication volume stands at 58 billion monthly authentications, with a gross profit margin of 78% and a Piotroski score of 9, reflecting strong financial health. The stock traded at $203.09 on the day of the event, up 3.29% from the prior close, within its 52-week range of $62.66 to $205.70. The company’s vision aligns with broader industry trends, including Amazon’s Chet Kapoor, who noted AI agents differ from traditional software due to their probabilistic nature. Dell Technologies’ Doug Schmitt underscored the need for a ‘business model change,’ arguing that AI adoption must be led by company-wide transformation, not just IT initiatives.

Okta’s founding partners—AWS, CrowdStrike, Salesforce, and Okta itself—highlighted the need for open standards, as co-creator David Soria-Parra of Anthropic’s MCP noted. Customers like Ramp (using Glass AI agents) and Yahoo (Y!Connect) demonstrated real-world adoption, while partnerships with third-party identity providers expand the ecosystem. The summit’s focus on balancing innovation with security reflects Okta’s 17-year history, rooted in identity management, as McKinnon recalled his daughter’s early frustration with scaling customer support—‘20,000 customers isn’t enough.’
