Lantern Pharma Inc., based in Dallas, has received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for its patent application covering the use of LP-284, an investigational acylfulvene compound, in treating mantle cell lymphoma and double-hit lymphoma. The patent, titled Method for Treating Blood Cancers, includes claims for LP-284 as a monotherapy and in combination with other anti-cancer agents such as DNA damage agents, glucocorticoids, BCL2 inhibitors, and proteasome inhibitors. Once issued, the patent will provide protection until 2042, following payment of the required issuance fee. Meanwhile, existing composition-of-matter patents for LP-284 remain in effect until 2039 in key markets including the United States, European Union, Japan, China, India, Mexico, Korea, and Australia.

The drug candidate is designed to exploit DNA repair deficiencies in cancer cells. Lantern Pharma has received FDA orphan drug designations for LP-284 in mantle cell lymphoma (January 2023), high-grade B-cell lymphoma with MYC and BCL2 rearrangements (November 2023), and soft tissue sarcomas (January 2026). The company is also advancing LP-284 in a Phase 1 dose-escalation trial (NCT06132503) for relapsed or refractory B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas and solid tumors. In 2025, Lantern Pharma reported that a patient with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma achieved a complete metabolic response after two treatment cycles.

The patent milestone underscores Lantern Pharma’s strategic focus on advancing LP-284 as a potential breakthrough in hematologic malignancies, aligning with its broader pipeline efforts to expand therapeutic options for cancer patients.
