Equillium’s Oral AhR Modulator EQ504 Advances in Phase I Trials for IBD and Lung Diseases

Equillium, a biopharmaceutical focused on mucosal immunology since its founding in 2017 and public listing in 2018, highlighted progress at the Stifel 2026 Virtual Immunology and Inflammation Forum on September 23, 2026. The company’s lead candidate, EQ504—a novel oral aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) modulator—is advancing toward its first human dosing in the fourth quarter of 2026, with Phase I results expected within six months of study initiation. The trial, conducted in Australia, will assess safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers via single- and multiple-dose regimens, including sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy procedures for tissue sampling. Meanwhile, EQ302, an oral peptide inhibitor targeting IL-15 and IL-21, is advancing toward clinical initiation within 12–18 months, addressing celiac disease—a condition affecting approximately 750,000 patients in the U.S. with elevated IL-15/IL-21 in persistent inflammation. Equillium’s cash reserves stand at $57.2 million, with a potential $20 million tranche contingent on EQ504’s first subject dosing.
