The upcoming week in the financial markets will be characterized by two central themes: geopolitical developments in the Middle East and the development of bond yields. Experts warn of further uncertainty that is keeping investors on edge. A potential compromise between Iran and other actors could reopen the Strait of Hormuz for oil transportation, which could relieve investors in the short term – but hope fades quickly, as new negotiation attempts regularly fail. This dynamic is further taxing the markets, particularly in the oil sector, where the Brent crude oil price fell by around 1.5% on Friday but remained above the $100 mark and showed a slight weekly recovery of approximately 1%. At the same time, the Swiss stock market SMI rose in the past trading days, but only occasionally reached the 14'000-point mark. The German DAX, on the other hand, remained in search of direction, with a slight increase of around 0.5% on Friday. The bond markets, however, are experiencing a yield shock: the yield on ten-year US Treasuries surpassed the 5% mark, a value that has not been reached since July 2007. The Fed will continue to examine its interest rate policy to dampen inflation and stabilize the labor markets. The US labor market statistics for September will be released on Friday, which could provide further indications on the Fed’s monetary policy stance. Investors are particularly watching how the United States handles the fallout from the oil price shocks and tariff policy, with the healthcare sector having grown particularly strongly. In addition to the labor market, data on consumer confidence in the Eurozone and the United States, inflation in Germany, and US growth and PCE inflation figures are on the agenda. The Swiss stock exchange remains less active: Roche will present itself on Monday at a pharmaceutical day in London, while Sika will host its investor day on Thursday. Geopolitical tensions between the United States and China remain a key risk factor, even if a direct diplomatic breakthrough seems unlikely. In addition, the debate on AI security will continue to dominate, weighing on technology stocks. A new approach from Meta might support prices in the short term, but in the long term, uncertainty about regulatory and security challenges remains. Experts expect higher fluctuations in the coming weeks, as markets continue to focus on these topics.
