U.S. commercial crude oil inventories rose by 4.4 million barrels in the week ending August 14, bringing total stockpiles to 428.8 million barrels, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released Wednesday.

The increase aligns inventories with the five-year average for this time of year. The EIA figures followed a separate report from the American Petroleum Institute (API), which had recorded a decline of 328,000 barrels in crude inventories for the same period.
