RingCentral Inc., listed on the NYSE under the ticker RNG, has launched a plugin for ChatGPT and model context protocol (MCP) connectors for Claude, enabling businesses to integrate voice, SMS, and chat interactions into AI-driven workflows. The new tools are available with all paid RingEX plans and aim to streamline customer service and internal processes through AI-driven insights. Users can access the ChatGPT plugin via RingCentral’s App Gallery and the ChatGPT Directory, with built-in governance controls allowing administrators to manage data access by role, maintain identity-aware permissions, and restrict LLM access to specific data types based on user permissions. This initiative marks the first phase of RingCentral’s broader agent platform roadmap, designed to leverage existing AI tools for enhanced business outcomes.
The integration supports a range of operational use cases, including prioritizing sales leads, automating follow-up messages for abandoned shopping carts, and summarizing urgent issues from conversation transcripts. By combining call and message data with project management systems, businesses can create task lists more efficiently. A pilot case at OrangeTheory Fitness in Warner Robins, Georgia, demonstrated significant improvements: the location’s lead response rate increased by 50 percent, and staff time spent reviewing conversations between shifts dropped from 45 minutes to under five minutes through automated summaries.
Kira Makagon, President and Chief Operating Officer at RingCentral, emphasized the value of integrating customer interaction data into AI tools. ‘Every conversation carries important signals about customer needs and past interactions,’ she stated. ‘MCP makes this context available directly in the LLMs businesses already use, enabling them to securely utilize their own data to drive outcomes.’ Cam Lothridge, a franchise owner at OrangeTheory Fitness, highlighted the plugin’s practical benefits, noting its role in accelerating response times and operational efficiency.
The release underscores RingCentral’s commitment to expanding its AI capabilities, positioning the company at the forefront of digital transformation in communication and customer service technology.
