Philips launches audio-guided IPL hair removal device at $699.95

Royal Philips launched its Lumea IPL 9900 Pro, an at-home Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) hair removal device that uses audio cues and motion guidance to assist users during treatment. The product, announced from Cambridge, Mass., is priced at $699.95 on Amazon's U.S. store.

The device incorporates Philips' SenseIQ Pro sensor technology, which reads the user's skin tone and automatically recommends a corresponding light setting. A companion mobile app—available on the Apple App Store and Google Play—tracks user movements in real time and delivers audio feedback throughout the session. Philips says the IPL pulses target hair follicles during their active growth phase, pushing them into a resting state to slow regrowth.

According to the company, median results from clinical-style testing on legs showed more than 90% hair reduction after three treatments. A separate consumer perception study found users reported results lasting up to five years when paired with monthly maintenance sessions. The device is FDA-cleared and carries a five-year warranty upon product registration. Progress tracking within the app provides post-treatment reports and usage recommendations.

"We've taken everything we've learned from decades of light-based technology research and transformed it into an intelligent product that works with you, not against you," said Dominique Oh, global leader of Philips' Beauty & Grooming Business Unit.

Philips reported 2025 sales of approximately EUR 18 billion. The Netherlands-headquartered company employs roughly 63,700 people and operates in more than 100 countries.
