Nvidia unveils 800 VDC power system for AI data centers

Nvidia on Tuesday introduced an 800 VDC power system designed to enhance energy efficiency for artificial intelligence data centers. The system, developed in collaboration with power electronics specialist Flex, targets high-performance computing workloads by optimizing voltage delivery and reducing energy losses.

The 800 VDC platform supports Nvidia's latest AI accelerators, including the H100 and upcoming Blackwell architectures, enabling faster data processing with lower power consumption. Traditional data center power architectures typically operate at 480 VAC or 415 VAC, requiring multiple conversion steps that introduce inefficiencies. Nvidia's solution consolidates power delivery into a single 800 VDC conversion stage, cutting conversion losses by up to 15%, according to company estimates.

The system is expected to reduce total cost of ownership for AI deployments by lowering cooling requirements and operational expenses. Flex, which provided the power conversion technology, stated the solution aligns with industry trends toward higher-voltage direct current architectures to meet growing power demands of AI workloads.

Nvidia plans to integrate the 800 VDC system into its DGX and OVX platforms, targeting hyperscale data centers and enterprise AI deployments. The announcement follows recent efforts by major cloud providers to adopt more efficient power solutions amid surging AI infrastructure investments.

The company did not disclose pricing or commercial availability timelines.
