Microchip Acquires Hailo in Edge AI Expansion

Microchip Technology Incorporated (NASDAQ: MCHP) has completed the acquisition of Hailo, a developer of edge AI processors and software technologies. The deal, announced on September 21, 2026, strengthens Microchip’s position in the rapidly expanding edge AI market, targeting applications in industrial automation, robotics, intelligent transportation, smart infrastructure, and advanced vision systems. The transaction, however, did not disclose financial terms or its direct impact on Microchip’s financial results, though the company stated it would not be material.

Hailo specializes in accelerated AI processors, including vision processors and robotics solutions, alongside AI software platforms. The company boasts over 100 customers and a developer community exceeding 10,000 users, underscoring its niche expertise in enabling AI at the edge—where processing occurs closer to data sources rather than centralized cloud systems. Microchip’s acquisition aims to integrate Hailo’s technology into its broader portfolio, enhancing capabilities for computer vision, transformer-based models, multimodal workloads, and video analytics.

The deal aligns with Microchip’s strategic focus on AI-driven embedded systems. Steve Sanghi, CEO and Chair of Microchip, emphasized AI’s growing role across embedded applications, from industrial automation to aerospace and defense. Mark Reiten, Senior Corporate Vice President of Microchip’s Intelligent Compute Business Unit, noted the acquisition as a key enhancement to the company’s edge AI strategy. Orr Danon, Hailo’s founder and CEO, highlighted the opportunity to leverage Microchip’s global sales network and customer relationships.

Microchip will maintain Hailo’s existing product portfolio and software ecosystem, ensuring continuity for current users. The combined offerings will support a range of AI-driven applications, reinforcing Microchip’s footprint in markets including industrial, automotive, aerospace, defense, communications, and computing. The acquisition underscores the semiconductor giant’s push toward AI innovation, positioning it as a leader in next-generation embedded intelligence solutions.
