Legal & General starts second £600m share buyback tranche

Legal & General Group Plc has commenced a second £600 million tranche of its share buyback programme, bringing the total authorised repurchases to £1.2 billion. The company acquired the remaining shareholder authority for the programme at its annual general meeting on May 21, 2026, permitting the purchase of up to 478,827,626 shares.

The second tranche began on September 14, 2026. It follows the completion of the first £600 million tranche, which ran from March 12 to September 11. The new tranche is expected to continue until no later than March 22, 2027.

Legal & General entered into a non-discretionary agreement with J.P. Morgan Securities plc under which J.P. Morgan makes independent trading decisions and purchases shares as a riskless principal before selling them back to the company. All shares repurchased under the programme will be cancelled, reducing legal and general's share capital. Purchases are being made on the London Stock Exchange and other UK-recognized investment exchanges within pre-set parameters.

The programme complies with the UK Market Abuse Regulation, the Companies Act 2006, and Chapter 9 of the Financial Conduct Authority's UK Listing Rules.

As of the first half of 2026, Legal & General managed approximately £1.2 trillion in assets, with roughly 44% held internationally. The company was founded in 1836.
