Kratos and GE Aerospace complete successful test of GEK800 cruise missile engine

Kratos Defense & Security Solutions and GE Aerospace reported that the GEK800 turbofan cruise‑missile propulsion system passed its development‑phase test with a 100% success rate. The test, conducted at Kratos' X-58 test facility in San Diego, demonstrated successful ignition and validated the engine's architecture, reliability and readiness for integration into long‑range, stand‑off strike missiles.

The engine, designated F143 and identified as Serial Number 1, is part of GE Aerospace's Edison Works Advanced Combat Engines portfolio. Kratos' Turbine Technologies Division highlighted that the milestone advances the schedule toward large‑volume production, aiming to lower lifecycle costs for advanced cruise‑missile systems.

Chris Rawlings, vice president of Kratos' Defense Engine Portfolio, praised the collaboration for its focus and discipline. Jorge Perez, general manager of GE Aerospace's Edison Works group, said the engine continues to show strong performance and durability. Stacey Rock, president of Kratos Turbine Technologies, noted the achievement supports the companies' push to meet U.S. Department of Defense requirements for long‑range strike capabilities.

GE Aerospace employs roughly 57,000 staff worldwide, underscoring the scale of resources behind the program. The successful test positions the GEK800 as a ready‑to‑integrate solution for future cruise‑missile platforms.
