Ameresco Inc., based in Massachusetts, has been selected for exclusive negotiations under the U.S. Army’s Enhanced Use Lease authority as part of its Strategic Capital Initiatives program. The company will pursue long-term leases to deploy advanced power generation technologies at two key military sites: Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland and Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey. These projects aim to enhance energy resilience during utility outages while integrating market-based grid capacity for each state’s power infrastructure.
At Picatinny Arsenal, Ameresco plans to deploy modular microreactor and small modular reactor (SMR) technologies. At Aberdeen Proving Ground, the company will collaborate with Terrestrial Energy to develop an integrated molten salt reactor. Under the Enhanced Use Lease structure, the U.S. government retains ownership of the leased property, while Ameresco and its partners finance, design, build, operate, secure, and decommission the facilities.
While development has begun, no construction will commence until environmental and regulatory reviews—including compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Air and Water Acts, and other federal, state, and local permits—are finalized. The projects are not yet part of Ameresco’s previously reported backlog as of June 30, 2026, and their financial impact remains uncertain until formal agreements are reached. The announcement marks a step toward advancing energy infrastructure at critical military installations, though exact revenue timelines or amounts remain undetermined.
