T-Mobile Raises FWA Target to 15M by 2030, Posts Strong Postpaid Growth

T-Mobile reported 500,000 postpaid net additions in the second quarter, representing 52.6% of the midpoint of its full-year guidance range of 950,000 to 1.05 million customers. The carrier guided for 250,000 postpaid account net additions in the third quarter during remarks at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference on September 10, 2026.

Service revenue growth ran at 9% and EBITDA grew 12%, while customer lifetime value posted a double-digit increase in Q2. Churn fell 85 basis points year-over-year in the prior quarter. Chief Executive Officer Srini Gopalan told the conference that the company is "probably the only player in this industry where when you see growth in net adds, it also means growth in revenue because the math of it is ridiculously simple."

Fixed wireless access customers now number nearly 10 million, and T-Mobile upgraded its long-term target to 15 million by 2030, up from a previous goal of 12 million. The carrier also reported approximately 3 million to 4 million fiber customers, with greenfield build penetration reaching 20% within the first 12 months. Hexbin capacity planning is managed across 36 million hexbins.

In smaller and rural markets, T-Mobile holds 24% share—up from 13% five years ago—covering 40% of the U.S. population. Its larger business market share stands at 10% to 12%. The company cited a net promoter score of 46 as the highest among the three major U.S. wireless carriers.

Gopalan emphasized the durability of the company's competitive position. "The depth and the width of the moat... are real, sustainable, defendable positions," he said.

On the satellite front, direct-to-cell usage accounted for just 0.0003% of T-Mobile usage at peak and 0.0002% at normal times. Gopalan noted that indoor signal from satellite is roughly 100,000 times weaker than a cell tower one kilometer away, and each beam supports about 10 concurrent users.

Looking ahead, the carrier announced a Credit Plus card launch with Capital One in November. CFO Peter Ewens will depart in summer 2027, succeeded by Jessica Uhl, formerly of Shell. The company also committed to a $12,000 multi-year performance-based stock grant for all employees, totaling roughly $1 billion. The Magenta AI Institute received a multi-year commitment of more than $100 million, building on previously identified value of $2.7 billion in care and service AI improvements. T-Life monthly active users exceeded 30 million.

Leverage remains targeted at a 2.5x ratio. Port-in ARPU runs 20% higher than port-out ARPU, and premium loading plan ratios sit in the 60s compared with mid-30s for base plans. Gopalan estimated about 20 million network-seeker accounts remain from customers who chose Verizon or AT&T during the 4G era, providing additional runway for growth.
