Intuitive Surgical shares rise on strong procedural growth

Shares of Intuitive Surgical rose on Friday after the medical device maker reported higher-than-expected procedural growth for its robotic-assisted surgery systems in the latest quarter.

The company, which dominates the robotic surgery market through its da Vinci systems, said procedures performed using its technology increased by 16% year-over-year in the second quarter, exceeding analyst expectations. The growth was driven by sustained demand across urology, gynecology and general surgery specialties.

Intuitive Surgical also raised its full-year procedural growth guidance to a range of 14% to 16%, up from its prior forecast of 12% to 15%. The upward revision reflects confidence in continued adoption of robotic-assisted techniques amid rising hospital investment in minimally invasive technologies.

Analysts at Piper Sandler maintained an overweight rating on the stock, citing strong procedure volumes and improved operational efficiency. The firm also highlighted the company’s expanding installed base of da Vinci systems, which reached over 8,000 units globally by the end of June.

The stock, which had been trading near record highs in recent sessions, extended gains following the earnings update. As of midday trading, shares were up approximately 3% on the Nasdaq.

Intuitive Surgical’s latest results underscore the ongoing shift toward robotic surgery in healthcare, a trend that has supported consistent revenue growth for the company despite pricing pressures in some markets.
