Xpeng’s robotics division has secured over $900 million in its first private funding round, setting a record for a single private fundraising effort in China’s embedded artificial intelligence sector. The round values the unit at more than $6.3 billion, according to a Monday announcement.
IDG Capital led the financing, with strategic investors Tencent and Alibaba participating. Gaorong Ventures also contributed, bringing additional expertise in autonomous driving and humanoid robotics through prior investments in companies such as Momenta and AgiBot.
The capital will support the development of hardware and software, training of physical AI models, data collection, and the construction of mass production facilities. The funds will also aid global expansion efforts as the company prepares for commercial deployment.
Xpeng’s humanoid robot, IRON, was unveiled in Beijing in June. The company aims to achieve a monthly production capacity of 1,000 units by year-end, with initial deployments planned for retail stores and industrial sites. Commercial sales and deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027 across China and international markets.
The latest round surpasses the $455 million raised by TARS Robotics in April, which had previously held the record for the largest individual private financing in China’s embedded AI sector.
