UK Trade Commissioner Highlights Swiss Energy Storage Project Amid Expansion Plans

The UK’s Trade Commissioner for Europe, Ceri Morgan CBE, visited the FlexBase Laufenburg Technology Centre in Switzerland, where excavation work for a 1.5 gigawatt-hour (GWh) vanadium flow battery system has already been completed. The project is intended to integrate with a nearby AI data center and technology campus, with plans for a subsequent expansion to 2.1 GWh. Invinity Energy Systems, a UK-listed company specializing in vanadium flow battery technology, is a key partner in the initiative, led by CEO Jonathan Marren. The visit underscored the collaboration between British institutions, including the National Wealth Fund and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, which have supported the project’s development. The site’s significance lies in its potential to become one of Europe’s most substantial energy and digital infrastructure projects, combining renewable energy storage with advanced computing facilities.
