UBS analysts upgraded Micron Technology to Buy from Neutral on Thursday, citing expectations of a structural shift in the company’s earnings trajectory amid tightening supply in the DRAM market.
In a research note, UBS highlighted that Micron’s cost discipline and strategic repositioning are positioning the company to benefit from sustained demand for memory chips. The firm expects the DRAM market to remain constrained, with supply tightness supporting higher pricing and margins for industry participants.
Micron, one of the world’s largest DRAM manufacturers, has been navigating a cyclical downturn in memory markets over the past two years. However, UBS’s upgrade reflects confidence that the company’s operational improvements and focused capacity management will translate into stronger financial performance. The firm did not provide a specific price target but emphasized the structural nature of the earnings recovery.
The DRAM market has been tightening as suppliers, including Micron, reduce capital expenditures and prioritize profitability over volume growth. Industry data suggests that supply constraints are likely to persist through 2025, driven by slower new capacity additions and steady demand from data centers, AI infrastructure, and consumer electronics.
Micron’s stock has underperformed broader semiconductor indices in recent quarters, reflecting investor caution amid macroeconomic uncertainty. The company is scheduled to report its next quarterly earnings on September 24. Analysts will closely monitor guidance on demand trends and inventory levels in the supply chain.
UBS’s upgrade follows similar positive revisions from other brokerages, which have also pointed to improving market dynamics for DRAM suppliers. The firm’s view aligns with a growing consensus that the memory chip market is entering a phase of sustained tightness, benefiting companies with strong cost structures and disciplined investment strategies.
