The U.S. government has proposed that South Korea acquire a stake in Westinghouse Electric, according to a report citing unidentified officials. The proposal outlines two potential pathways for implementation, including a special-purpose vehicle co-funded by both countries to lead nuclear plant construction in the United States.
South Korea’s government is evaluating Korea Electric Power as the designated buyer of the stake. Funding for the investment could be drawn from a $200 billion South Korea-U.S. strategic investment fund, which would support expanded nuclear energy projects domestically.
