U.S. equities opened lower on Tuesday as escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran kept oil prices elevated and government bond yields near multi-year highs.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 105.3 points, or 0.20%, to 53,354.43 at the open. The S&P 500 declined 45.0 points, or 0.58%, to 7,700.04, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 298.0 points, or 1.12%, to 26,346.88.
Analysts cited the stalemate in U.S.-Iran negotiations as a key driver of market sentiment, with crude oil prices remaining supported by the risk of supply disruptions. Benchmark Treasury yields also held near recent peaks, weighing on equity valuations.
The broad retreat came as investors reassessed risk assets amid elevated geopolitical uncertainty and rising borrowing costs. Trading volumes were moderate, with no major corporate earnings or economic data releases scheduled for the session.
