U.S. private employers added an average of 9,500 jobs per week during the four-week period ending Aug. 1, 2026, according to ADP data released on Tuesday. The increase follows seven consecutive weeks of declining hiring, marking a modest rebound in labor demand.
The figures, derived from ADP Research’s weekly NER Pulse report, reflect seasonally adjusted data with a two-week lag. The report is produced in collaboration with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab and is based on ADP’s National Employment Report, which tracks payrolls across more than 1.1 million clients in 140 countries.
The four-week moving average of 9,500 jobs compares with 8,250 in the prior week and 11,000 the week before that. Earlier in the summer, hiring averaged 14,500 jobs in the week ending July 11 and 30,750 in the week ending June 6, indicating a broad slowdown in private-sector employment growth.
ADP’s NER Pulse is published every Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. ET, excluding weeks when the monthly National Employment Report is released. The next weekly update is scheduled for Aug. 25, 2026. The data remains preliminary and subject to revision.
