U.S. power output rose 6.1% year-over-year to 100,895 gigawatt-hours in the week ended Aug. 22, according to data released Wednesday by the Edison Electric Institute.
The latest weekly figure marks a 0.6% decline from the prior seven-day period, when production totaled 101,498 GWh. Over the past 52 weeks, total U.S. power output increased 2.2% to 4,365,212 GWh, compared with the prior 12-month period.
Eight of the nine U.S. geographic regions tracked by the Edison Electric Institute posted year-over-year gains in the latest week. New England led with a 13.4% increase, followed by the South Central region at 10.1%. The West Central region was the sole area to decline, falling 2.9%, while the Central Industrial region recorded the smallest gain at 0.9%.
