Turkey’s BIST 100 index declined 0.28% to end lower on Tuesday, as losses in energy and financial equities offset modest gains in technology and consumer stocks.
The index, which tracks the performance of the country’s 100 most liquid companies, closed at 9,872.34 points, down from an intraday high of 9,905.12. Energy shares led the declines, with major oil and gas companies retreating amid softer global crude prices. Financial firms also weighed on the benchmark, as concerns over domestic credit conditions persisted.
Technology and consumer staples provided limited support, with gains capped by a stronger Turkish lira, which trimmed export competitiveness. Trading volume totaled 23.4 billion lira, below the 30-day average of 28.1 billion lira, indicating subdued investor activity.
The broader emerging market complex showed mixed signals, with Asian peers mostly higher but European bourses under pressure. Analysts attributed the BIST 100’s modest decline to profit-taking after recent gains and cautious positioning ahead of key domestic economic data due later in the week.
