President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping will host a state dinner Thursday evening, drawing a guest list that heavily features American government officials and corporate executives while including only seven Chinese counterparts, according to a White House press release.
U.S. government officials, business leaders and their spouses made up the majority of the more than 100 attendees. On the Chinese side, only seven officials were listed as accompanying President Xi and First Lady Peng Liyuan.
Chinese business leaders had been widely expected to join Xi's visit, but none appear on the final list. Earlier reporting indicated that no Chinese companies had received invitations despite prior speculation to the contrary.
Xi is making his first state visit to the United States since Barack Obama's presidency, arriving Wednesday ahead of talks in Shanghai between a U.S. trade delegation and Chinese counterparts. He is scheduled to depart Friday.
The U.S. business contingent included Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia; Mark Zuckerberg of Meta; Tim Cook of Apple; Dr. Lisa Su of Advanced Micro Devices; Satya Nadella of Microsoft; Jeff Bezos of Amazon; Sundar Pichai of Google; Elon Musk of SpaceX and Tesla; Larry Fink of BlackRock; Stephen Schwarzman of Blackstone; and CEOs from ExxonMobil, General Motors, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Pfizer, Visa and Mastercard, among others. Anthropic was notably absent from the list despite Sam Altman and Greg Brockman of OpenAI attending.
On the U.S. government side, attendees included Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, War Secretary Pete Hegseth, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, Associate Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Brett Kavanaugh, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, and CIA Director John Ratcliffe, along with several cabinet secretaries and senior advisors.
The formal Chinese delegation included Cai Qi, standing committee member of the Communist Party Political Bureau; Wang Yi, Central Committee member; Vice Premier He Lifeng; Zheng Shanjie, chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission; Commerce Minister Wang Wentao; Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu; Finance Minister Lan Fo'an; and Ambassador Xie Feng.
