Sunrise and Salt, Switzerland’s second- and third-largest mobile operators, have signed a non-binding memorandum to expand cooperation on mobile network infrastructure in rural and less densely populated areas.
The proposed collaboration aims to enhance mobile coverage, signal reception and connection quality across the country, the companies said in a joint statement. Discussions focus on joint deployment of base stations and other radio access network assets, while preserving independent competition.
Sunrise and Salt emphasized that any final agreement would require a newly launched technical and planning review, as well as regulatory approvals. The operators will maintain separate core networks, frequency licenses, pricing, product offerings and distribution strategies even if cooperation proceeds.
The initiative follows broader industry efforts to improve connectivity in underserved regions while balancing competitive dynamics in Switzerland’s concentrated telecoms market.
