Spain’s benchmark IBEX 35 index ended higher on Wednesday, rising 0.05% as gains in financial services, real estate and consumer sectors offset broader weakness. The index closed at 11,234.60, according to data from the Madrid Stock Exchange.
Advancing stocks outnumbered decliners by a ratio of 79 to 105, with 18 issues unchanged. The mixed breadth reflected uneven sector performance, as commodity-linked equities showed divergence.
Among the top performers, stainless steel producer Acerinox led with a 3.19% gain to 17.80, while steelmaker ArcelorMittal advanced 2.93% to 64.54. Puig Brands, the Spanish fashion and fragrance group, rose 1.73% to 18.19.
Ferrovial was the largest decliner, falling 4.95% to 51.42, followed by telecoms group Telefonica, which slipped 2.04% to 3.61. Banco de Sabadell also retreated, down 1.27% to 3.65.
Commodities showed mixed signals. December gold futures fell 0.83% to $4,655.50 per troy ounce, while October WTI crude oil rose 0.53% to $82.80 per barrel. The November Brent contract increased 0.53% to $87.73 per barrel.
The euro held steady against the dollar, with EUR/USD trading flat at 1.17, while the EUR/GBP pair was little changed at 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Index futures were up 0.24% at 99.08.
