Spanish stocks retreated Tuesday, with the IBEX 35 closing 0.21% lower after losses in financial services, consumer goods and telecommunications and IT sectors weighed on the index.
The benchmark gauge fell to 11,185.30 points, pressured by declines in major components including Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria, which slipped 1.52% to €24.69, and Bankinter, which dropped 1.03% to €16.78. Among advancers, Puig Brands led with a 2.94% gain to €17.88, followed by Corporacion Acciona Energias Renovables at 2.20% to €21.36 and International Consolidated Airlines Group at 2.18% to €5.16.
Advancing issues outnumbered decliners 115 to 74, with 15 stocks unchanged. The session reflected a mixed performance across the Madrid exchange, with broader European equity sentiment remaining cautious amid ongoing macroeconomic uncertainty.
Commodities showed divergent moves, with gold futures for December delivery rising 0.14% to $4,704.30 per troy ounce, while crude oil futures for October delivery fell 3.36% to $82.15 per barrel. Brent crude for November delivery declined 3.43% to $87.43 per barrel, extending losses from prior sessions.
The euro held steady against the dollar, with EUR/USD flat at 1.17, while the U.S. Dollar Index edged up 0.05% to 98.88.
