SIX and Twint have joined a Swiss banking alliance testing use cases for a Swiss franc stablecoin in a protected digital environment. The initiative, launched in April by UBS, Postfinance, Sygnum, Raiffeisen, the Zürcher Kantonalbank and the Waadtländer Kantonalbank, said on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, that the two new participants add expertise in financial-market infrastructure and digital payment solutions.
The stablecoin, CHFD, is pegged one-for-one to the Swiss franc and has been live since the end of June. Its platform is operated by CHFD Infrastruktur AG, a subsidiary of Swiss Stablecoin. With the additions, the group now has nine partners and has started a test phase in a live sandbox environment.
The initiative aims to generate insights for the further development of Switzerland's digital-money ecosystem and to strengthen the competitiveness of the Swiss financial center. Until the end of 2026, the sandbox will examine both internationally established applications and innovative use cases. These include automated transactions between financial institutions and tokenized settlement of digital assets, as well as programmable payments.
The announcement cited examples of the questions being tested, including whether and how programmability can reduce fraud risk on online marketplaces, support fair access to event tickets, and make the disbursement of public funds more efficient.
