Serve Robotics Inc. and Grubhub Inc. have expanded their partnership to accelerate the deployment of autonomous delivery robots in U.S. markets. The collaboration aims to integrate Serve’s robotic fleet with Grubhub’s logistics network, enabling contactless food deliveries in select urban areas.
The agreement builds on a prior pilot program and represents a strategic push to scale robotics-based delivery infrastructure. Serve Robotics, which operates battery-powered delivery bots capable of navigating sidewalks, will deploy its units in cities where Grubhub has active restaurant partnerships. Financial terms of the expansion were not disclosed.
Grubhub, a subsidiary of Netherlands-based Just Eat Takeaway.com, has been expanding its delivery capabilities amid rising demand for contactless services. The company has cited labor shortages and operational efficiency as key drivers for adopting autonomous delivery solutions. Serve Robotics, backed by investors including Uber Technologies, has previously tested its robots in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Analysts note that the partnership could reduce last-mile delivery costs for Grubhub while providing Serve Robotics with a commercial pathway for its technology. The move aligns with broader industry trends toward automation in logistics, though regulatory and scalability challenges remain for autonomous delivery services.
Serve Robotics shares were not actively traded at the time of the announcement, as the company remains privately held.
