Barclays has identified three dollar store stocks as top picks ahead of the second-quarter earnings reports, citing strong consumer demand and pricing power.
The bank’s analysts recommended Dollar Tree, Dollar General and Five Below, emphasizing their resilience in a high-inflation environment. The firms operate in the discount retail sector, which has benefited from consumers shifting spending to lower-priced goods amid economic uncertainty.
Dollar Tree, the parent company of Dollar Tree and Family Dollar, is expected to report earnings on Aug. 28, while Dollar General and Five Below will release results in late August and early September, respectively. Barclays’ bullish stance follows a recent upgrade for Dollar General to 'Overweight' from 'Equal Weight,' with a price target raised to $220 from $195.
Analysts noted that dollar stores have maintained strong same-store sales growth, outpacing broader retail trends. The sector’s performance has been supported by value-conscious consumers, particularly in lower-income households, where discretionary spending remains under pressure.
Barclays’ recommendation aligns with broader market trends favoring discount retailers. The firms’ stock performance has also been bolstered by their ability to navigate supply chain challenges and pass on higher costs to customers without significant loss of volume.
Investors will closely monitor earnings guidance for signs of sustained demand and margin stability as inflation pressures persist.
