Russian equities ended lower on Wednesday as losses in energy, mining and industrial sectors outweighed gains elsewhere, with the MOEX Russia Index declining 0.34% at the close in Moscow.
Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by 158 to 80, while 17 stocks were unchanged. The Russian Volatility Index fell 9.52% to 41.52, reflecting reduced near-term market risk perception.
Among the top gainers, Federal Hydro Generating Company RusHydro PJSC rose 3.70% to 0.36, GMK Norilsk Nickel PAO added 2.91% to 129.30 and Novolipetsk Steel advanced 2.80% to 71.30. On the downside, ROSSETI PJSC fell 1.63% to 0.05 and Moskovskiy Kreditnyi Bank PAO declined 1.06% to 9.55.
The Russian ruble held steady against the dollar and euro, with USD/RUB at 87.65 and EUR/RUB at 101.06. US Dollar Index futures rose 0.11% to 99.53.
Commodity markets showed strength, with December gold futures up 0.86% at $4,434.30 per troy ounce and October crude oil futures up 0.45% at $90.63 per barrel. November Brent crude futures rose 0.07% to $95.32 per barrel.
