Russia on Tuesday reaffirmed its stance against the deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine, as discussions among alliance members regarding a potential multinational military presence continue.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow would not accept any foreign military forces operating within Ukraine’s borders. The position has been reiterated multiple times in recent months, Peskov said, without elaborating on specific scenarios or timelines.
The remarks follow ongoing consultations among NATO members regarding the possibility of a limited or advisory troop presence in Ukraine. No formal proposals have been publicly confirmed, and the alliance has not issued a statement regarding potential deployment terms or objectives.
Peskov did not specify whether Russia would respond militarily to such a deployment, though Moscow has previously warned of consequences for perceived threats near its borders. The Kremlin’s opposition underscores the sensitivity of foreign military involvement in the conflict, which remains unresolved after more than two years of war.
The statement was made during a regular press briefing on August 25, 2026.
