Portugal’s benchmark PSI index closed 0.48% higher on Thursday, as gains in utilities, financials and technology shares offset declines in consumer staples and industrials. The Lisbon market recorded 14 advancing stocks for every 12 decliners, with five issues unchanged.
Galp Energia led sector advances, adding 1.44% to finish at €21.77, while EDP Energias de Portugal rose 1.20% to €4.65. EDP Renovaveis climbed 1.04% to €13.55. Among laggards, Ibersol SGPS fell 1.59% to €9.88, Jeronimo Martins SGPS declined 1.11% to €16.99, and Teixeira Duarte dropped 1.04% to €0.48.
Brent crude for October delivery gained 2.35% to $93.77 per barrel, while U.S. crude for the same contract rose 2.73% to $86.69. Gold futures expiring in December advanced 0.66% to $4,575.41 per troy ounce.
The euro held steady against the dollar at $1.17, while the euro-pound cross was little changed at £0.86. The U.S. Dollar Index futures were up 0.04% at 98.77.
