Portugal’s PSI index closed 0.40% higher on Monday, reaching its highest level in three months as gains in consumer services, financials and basic materials offset losses in energy shares.
The Lisbon Stock Exchange recorded 15 advancing issues against nine decliners, with six stocks unchanged. The PSI’s advance was capped by a 2.28% drop in Galp Energia, which fell 0.50 points to 21.43.
Among the top gainers, Jeronimo Martins led with a 3.08% rise, adding 0.54 points to finish at 18.08. Ibersol gained 1.10% to 10.10, while CTT Correios de Portugal advanced 1.01% to 6.48.
On the downside, Mota Engil slipped 0.31% to 4.50, and Redes Energeticas Nacionais declined 0.28% to 3.54.
Global commodity markets showed mixed signals. Brent crude for November delivery fell 2.21% to $90.62 a barrel, while U.S. crude for October delivery dropped 2.53% to $84.86. Gold futures for December delivery rose 0.72% to $4,714.40 per troy ounce.
The euro held steady against the dollar, with EUR/USD up 0.09% at 1.17, while EUR/GBP was little changed at 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Index futures gained 0.18% to 98.91.
