Poland’s WIG30 index rose 1.37% to close higher Wednesday, led by gains in the chemicals, basic materials and banking sectors.
The Warsaw Stock Exchange’s WIG30 advanced as 250 stocks rose, 268 declined and 120 ended unchanged. The index’s advance extended into late trade, with several components reaching multi-year peaks.
Powszechna Kasa Oszczędności Bank Polski SA (WA:PKO) led the gains, climbing 4.68% to 115.00 zloty, marking a record close. KGHM Polska Miedź SA (WA:KGH) added 4.04% to 348.00 zloty, while Bank Polska Kasa Opieki SA (WA:PEO) rose 2.44% to 260.00 zloty, nearing five-year highs.
On the downside, X-Trade Brokers Dom Maklerski SA (WA:XTB) fell 1.18% to 164.50 zloty. Orange Polska SA (WA:OPL) declined 0.75% to 14.54 zloty, and CD PROJEKT SA (WA:CDR) slipped 0.70% to 256.50 zloty.
The Polish zloty firmed slightly against the euro and dollar. The EUR/PLN rate eased 0.14% to 4.32, while the USD/PLN rate fell 0.91% to 3.70. The U.S. Dollar Index futures were down 0.75% at 98.81.
Global commodities advanced. October crude oil futures rose 1.46% to $85.29 per barrel, while Brent crude for October delivery climbed 1.38% to $92.28 per barrel. December gold futures gained 2.78% to $4,543.32 per troy ounce.
