OpenAI launched commercial operations in Brazil with the opening of an office in São Paulo, positioning the country as one of its largest global markets for the ChatGPT chatbot.
The move follows a year of rapid growth in Brazil, where users send approximately 215 million messages to ChatGPT daily. The company highlighted that Brazil ranks as the third-largest market worldwide for its chatbot, with usage metrics showing the highest global rate of image generation requests and among the top five markets for voice and dictation applications.
Weekly voice users in Brazil doubled over the past year, the company reported. OpenAI also announced partnerships to expand access and training. A collaboration with the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA) will provide student accounts and credits for programming tool resources, while a program with legal-sector startup Enter will train lawyers in the country using ChatGPT.
Additionally, OpenAI signed a memorandum of understanding with Prodam, the data processing company of São Paulo’s municipal government, to deploy artificial intelligence tools locally. The commercial launch was announced on August 27, 2026.
