Oman’s foreign minister on Thursday emphasized that lasting security in the Strait of Hormuz hinges on achieving permanent peace in the region, as tensions in the Gulf persist. The minister conveyed this stance during discussions with Japan’s counterpart, underscoring Oman’s commitment to maritime security and adherence to international law.
The Gulf state reiterated its opposition to any further escalation or conflict in the strategically vital waterway, which serves as a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments. Oman’s stance aligns with its long-standing role as a neutral mediator in regional disputes.
Separately, Iran previously indicated that an agreement with Oman regarding new shipping lanes through the strait was nearing completion. The reported development follows heightened concerns over maritime safety and the potential for disruptions to critical trade routes.
