Oil futures declined during the U.S. trading session on Tuesday, with West Texas Intermediate crude for October delivery falling 3.33% to $82.18 per barrel.
The decline in WTI came as technical support at $81.54 held, while resistance remained at $87.69. On the ICE Futures Europe exchange, Brent crude for November delivery dropped 3.76% to $87.14 per barrel, widening the spread between Brent and WTI to $4.96.
The U.S. Dollar Index futures, a gauge of the greenback's strength against major currencies, slipped 0.11% to 98.82. The session's losses extended declines from earlier in the week as markets assessed demand signals and macroeconomic data.
