OceanaGold Corp. said its president and chief executive officer, Gerard Bond, plans to retire in the second quarter of 2027.
Bond, who joined OceanaGold in 2022, will step down after five years at the Toronto and New York-listed gold producer, following a three-decade career in the resources sector. The company has engaged international search firm Spencer Stuart to evaluate internal and external candidates for the CEO role.
Upon his departure, Bond will remain with the company as a special advisor to the board and incoming CEO for a six-month transition period. He intends to retire to Australia.
Chairman Paul Benson oversaw the succession announcement. OceanaGold said it remains on track to meet its 2026 production guidance and is progressing toward completion of its acquisition of Ausgold, which would add the Katanning Gold Project to its portfolio.
The company operates several mines across the Asia-Pacific and North American regions, including the Haile Gold Mine in the United States, the Macraes and Waihi operations in New Zealand, and an 80%-owned interest in the Didipio Mine in the Philippines.
On the day the announcement was made, OceanaGold shares (OGC) closed at $39.44 Canadian, down $1.480 or 3.62%.
