Norwegian shares retreated Wednesday, with the benchmark Oslo OBX Index falling 0.10% at the close as declines in media, transport and diversified financial services outpaced gains elsewhere.
The OBX’s 0.10% decline came as decliners outnumbered advancers 140 to 114 on the Oslo Stock Exchange, with 30 issues unchanged. Among the index components, Salmar ASA led gains with a 6.25% advance to 578.00 Norwegian kroner, followed by Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA at 1.90% to 13.39 NOK and Mowi ASA at 1.83% to 211.60 NOK.
On the downside, Hafnia Ltd fell 3.48% to 73.45 NOK, TGS NOPEC Geophysical Company ASA dropped 3.25% to 130.80 NOK and Höegh Autoliners ASA declined 2.59% to 169.50 NOK.
Commodity markets also softened, with October crude oil futures down 0.68% at $81.80 per barrel and November Brent crude down 0.64% at $86.71. December gold futures fell 0.61% to $4,665.76 per troy ounce.
Foreign exchange moves showed the euro rising 0.23% against the Norwegian krone to 10.89, while the U.S. dollar gained 0.46% to 9.35 NOK. The U.S. Dollar Index futures slipped 0.29% to 99.13.
