Richardson Electronics Ltd. (NASDAQ: RELL) said on Monday it will deploy 18 customized battery energy storage systems across seven remote communities in Alaska, marking a multi-million-dollar expansion into the state’s energy infrastructure.
The systems, totaling 7 megawatt-hours of combined storage capacity, are engineered to withstand Alaska’s extreme temperatures and harsh climate conditions. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, according to the company.
Greg Peloquin, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Richardson’s Power & Microwave Technologies and Green Energy Solutions groups, said the initiative demonstrates the company’s ability to deliver innovative energy storage solutions for demanding applications. The project was developed in collaboration with technology partners.
Richardson, which manufactures engineered solutions including power grid components, microwave tubes, and display systems, said more than half of its products are produced in Illinois, Massachusetts, and Germany. The company serves markets including alternative energy, aviation, communications, and industrial sectors.
The contract underscores the growing demand for resilient energy infrastructure in remote and challenging environments.
