MoneyGram is expanding its stablecoin business with a Visa-branded stablecoin debit card, following a similar launch by remittance rival Western Union.
The MoneyGram Card will first be available as a virtual card in Colombia and can be used through Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. The company said it plans to add a physical card option as it expands into additional markets later this year.
MoneyGram is working with infrastructure provider Rain on the card. Western Union, which announced its Stablecard last month, is also using Rain for its rollout.
The move follows MoneyGram's launch of the MGUSD stablecoin on Stellar in June, as part of its push into blockchain-based cross-border payments. The company integrated MGUSD with its proprietary app through a self-custodial wallet and last month announced a link with a Solana wallet to expand its crypto on-ramps.
The World Bank has identified stablecoins as a key tool for reducing the cost of global remittances. In a September 2025 analysis of remittance cost trends, it found that debit cards are the lowest-cost instrument for receiving remittances, at 3.61% of the amount transmitted.
