NEW YORK, Aug 31 (dpa-AFX) – RBC reaffirmed an Outperform rating on UBS and retained a target price of 44 Swiss francs following a recommendation from the Swiss Senate commission on banking regulation. Analyst Anke Reingen said the commission’s proposal, while still subject to a lengthy legislative process, provides a clear direction for parliamentary deliberations.
RBC views the commission’s suggestion as broadly positive for UBS’s equity capital ratio relative to the government’s alternative plan. However, the analyst warned that the financial impact on the bank’s AT‑1 instruments – contingent convertible capital securities – could offset the capital‑ratio benefit.
The recommendation is intended to shape the upcoming regulatory framework for Swiss banks, a sector under heightened scrutiny after recent global banking reforms. RBC’s decision reflects its assessment that the commission’s approach improves UBS’s capital structure despite the uncertainty surrounding AT‑1 instruments.
