MMG Ltd’s shares advanced 2.8% in Hong Kong on Monday after the company resumed operations at its Las Bambas copper mine and processing plant in Peru, following a temporary halt triggered by a fatal accident.
The Hong Kong-traded shares of MMG, which trades under the ticker 1208, reached HK$9.59, extending gains after the company confirmed the restart of mining and processing activities at Las Bambas on August 21. Operations had been suspended on August 19 following an accident on August 18 that killed two workers and injured three others.
Las Bambas, one of the world’s largest copper mines, represents a key revenue stream for MMG. The mine’s operations were briefly interrupted earlier in August before the August 18 incident led to the extended suspension. The resumption of activities at Las Bambas follows the company’s announcement on August 24, which coincided with the rise in MMG’s share price.
