Meta and Roblox have agreed to implement a series of child-safety measures requested by Philippine authorities following high-level discussions in Singapore.
The commitments include age-verification systems, enhanced parental controls, accelerated removal of harmful content, and closer collaboration with law enforcement. Both companies also pledged to establish a local presence in the Philippines, with Roblox aiming to open an office in Manila by October and Meta planning to dispatch a team to discuss expansion timelines.
Philippine Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Aguda confirmed the agreements after meetings with executives from both firms. The measures were negotiated against the backdrop of recent violent incidents in the country, including a fatal university shooting in the southern Philippines where a student livestreamed the attack, and a separate June incident involving school violence.
Aguda stated the U.S. settlement involving Meta—under which the company agreed to pay up to $18 billion over the next decade to resolve claims that its platforms harmed children—would strengthen discussions on accountability and child protection. He added that both companies had accepted the requested safety protocols, including office localization and faster content moderation.
The commitments were formalized during meetings held in Singapore, reflecting growing regulatory pressure on digital platforms to address child safety concerns in the Philippines.
