Lazard Adds Defense Tech Expert Matt Spence to San Francisco Tech Group

Lazard Inc., a global advisory firm listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: LAZ), has appointed Matt Spence as Head of Defense Technology and Emerging Technology within its Technology Group, based in San Francisco. Spence brings a background spanning government national security roles, venture capital banking, and strategic technology advisory services to the role. His previous experience includes serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Middle East Policy and as Managing Director and Global Head of Venture Capital Banking at Barclays, where he led defense-tech and dual-use technology investment banking operations. He also held senior roles at Guggenheim Partners and was a Partner at Andreessen Horowitz. Spence’s academic credentials include a doctorate in International Relations from Oxford University, a J.D. from Yale Law School, and degrees from Stanford University. He is also a co-founder of The Truman National Security Project and a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
